Handwoven Bags

These are a series of project pouches and notions bags. AlI year, as I wove, I saved interesting lengths of my handwoven fabric, often experiments of color and texture. Then I crafted them into these special bags, lined with linen and complete with pockets.

Sturdy and structured. Excellent as a maker’s project bag, for travel toiletries, and lovely as an evening clutch.

Black & White Bold Stripe

A bold stripe in the center fades to black on the edges.

Randomness plays a role in this design. After winding the warp by holding various number of black and white threads, I allowed the warp ends to fall into a random order when threading the loom. The result is organic stripes without discernible patterns.

Classic, understated, elegant towels in five colors: natural, turmeric, black, flax and chocolate.

Indigo Ikat

An exploration of an ancient technique.  For this series, I wrapped fabric resists around areas of the warp before dyeing it with indigo. Afterwards, these areas show up as white. They have their own unplanned character, revealed as I weave them on the loom.

A vibrant fabric that almost seems to glow.

Kaleidoscope

A gradient on the cool side of the spectrum meets color-and-weave texture.

The warp utilizes a random method to place the colors, shifting across the width. Then the cloth is woven with alternating colors, creating ephemeral texture patterns.

Woven in pinks, blues and aquas.

Pixelations

A bit of weaving magic.

The whole warp alternates black and white threads, reminiscent of television static. When woven with various sequences of light and dark, patterns emerge. Monochomatic patterns give way to color explorations in this studious collection.
